What's great about it: Bose qulity sound with good enough base without subwoofer
What's not so great: Speakers must be fairly close to each other
The main reason for this purchase was to get a good set of speakers without a subwoofer for playing music through the PC while working at home and some gaming. The speakers are probably not the best for gaming just because they are not 5.1 or 7.1 speakers for surround sound from gaming sound cards, but I knew that would be the case before the purchase. My only real complaint would be that the 2 speakers are designed to sit to the left and right of a monitor. The cord that connects the speakers is too short. It is a Bose proprietary connector so you can't buy an extension anywhere. In fact, Bose does not even make one. I have a large corner desk and I needed to run the wire out the back to the other side. The cable was too short so I have to run it across the desk in front of the monitor and it looks a bit messy. Also the cord from the sound card to the speakers is fairly short as well. However, a few dollars at the local electronic store corrected that issue as it was just a standard 3.5mm stereo plug. I guess Bose makes the assumption people are plugging this thing in from a laptop on the desk to the speakers and not from a desktop tucked away beside a desk and not that close to the monitor.

What's great about it: Small size fits in pants pockets well and is light weight
What's not so great: Apple proprietary cables
The iPhone 5s is a standard Apple product I purchased for my wife. I can't really compare to other iPhones as this is the first one purchased. It seems to have good reception on average with other smartphones and the apps seem snappy. My largest complaint would be Apple not using standard micro USB connectors as I don't use an iPhone and now we cannot share chargers. All the chargers that work with most other compact battery operated devices and cell phones will not work with Apple products so we get to buy extra lightening connection chargers.

Can you connect these to a sound card?

I have a very nice sound card that I want to use if I buy these speakers. BUT, it does NOT have a USB port on the card. Can I get some kind of adapter so I can use these with my sound card?
A standard 3.5mm stereo plug is used to connect from computer to speakers. It has nothing to do with USB ports.

is it compatible with hp with beats audio?

I am running Windows 8.1 on an HP desktop with beats audio and the speakers work without issue.

With the Bose Companion 20 is there an extension cable (speaker to computer) if the original cable/wire is too short?

The connector on the left speak is AWM E320450. The connector seems to be unique and not a standard 3.5mm cable with connectors. Many blogs say that you can't find an extention for it...even from BOSE. Sugguestions?
I bought a standard 3.5mm stereo cable from Radio Shack to hook from the sound card to the speaker and it works fine. The cable that connects the two speakers together is fairly short and it is proprietary and even Bose does not make an extension.
