This product uses the old BPL idea to use the wiring in your house for an antenna. It's not without it's vagaries, but it did mitigate a problem of getting signal from a router in our basement to TV and laptop upstairs. If your having this type of difficulty, give it a try. I think Best Buy will take it back if it doesn't help.

How much electricity does this use?

I was told that since this uses power lines, it will add electricity costs and I'd like to know if that's true, and if so, how much.

The power usage is minimal, at 60mA, i.e. about 1/10th of what a light bulb uses.
