This new generation of TiVos integrate your cable box and smart TV functions all in one. The Guide and recording management functions are far superior to the TWC DVR. They are faster and easier to use.
4 tuners let you record 3 programs at once while watching a 4th channel, or record 4 channels at once while watching another recorded program.
Not recommended for chronic couch potatoes. It makes it too easy.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can the life time fee transfer to the new unit or do I have to pay seperately for the new unit?

Unfortunately, the lifetime fee goes with the box. If you already have a Tivo with a lifetime fee you do qualify for a cheaper multibox fee schedule.

What's the difference?

What is the difference between the Roamio OTA for $49.99 and the Roamio DVR for $179.99?! They both work with cable and antenna... So what is the difference?
Go to the Tivo website and/or call the Tivo rep. They're pretty helpful in understanding theor product.

Romio picture/sound quality when used to tune tv channels

How does the Romio Tuner output quality compare to a $13 per-month fee (Time-Warner ) digital converter box ?
I find the overall picture and sound quality from my Tivo to be equal to or better than that which we used to receive from our TWC DVR.

does the roamio come with smart features already installed

Tes, if you mean streaming from Netflix, Hulu, You Tube and other sources.
