Exactly as advertised. This handheld vacuum really picks up tiny particles, dog hair, etc. Dyson support was able to tell me how to further clean the bin beyond the information written in the instruction booklet.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Loading the software seems like a waste if time. Simple drag and drop works okay; or copy-paste. Inconsistently will not let me "eject". I found I could leave the USB plugged in. Reboot, then select to eject it. I don't appreciate the extra waste of time to do this.

Does it come with an attachment that works on carpets?

Yes... A brush end...intended for uphostery but I've vacuumed my short carpet near the back door where the dog goes in and out frequently. It is a handheld, so you must hold the trigger to operate. You can't just attach a hose and drag the macine like a "puppy dog vacuum"

Does this vacuum clean carpeted stairs good. I have dogs.

I have two other Dyson vacuums. Best in the world for cleaning both carpets and hardwood floors. I have three small dogs and birds . Cleans like a dream. I wanted this cordless especially for stairs. Will it do the job on carpeted and wood stairs?
Yes! I have a Dalmatian. And if you know anything about the breed, you would know that they shed constantly. I vacuumed the upholstery in my car. It pulled up the finest particles of dust, dog hair, and even older dog hair from the one I put down in April 2015.
The attachment is very good for getting in tight areas such as around the base boards, and in tight spots in the kitchen (no carpet there) where the cabinets overhang slightly. Recharging is not a problem, because you have to empty the bin fairly frequently so you're only vacuuming in relatively short bursts. The bin fills up quickly because it vacuums so very well.
