What's great about it: Simple to use.
What's not so great: Can't change remote to a different one.
This is the 3rd unit I've purchased and have never had a problem with the other 2. Normally works very well and is easy to set up. Unfortunately, this one worked for a day, did an auto update and it never worked again. It kept over heating, and not acknowledging the on screen remote. Factory reset various times as per instructions, nothing worked. Returning for exchange.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can I set up a sling box in ny and not have the laptop that will be using sling box with me?

What if I want to buy it so my daughter can watch tv. She's not here with her laptop. Will this be a problem?
You can set her up as a guest user, or just give her the username and password for the account. Just note that if you are watching the TV that's hooked up and she logs on, she can disconnect you form what you are watching and vice verse.

Yes, the software allows you to turn on your home box with the on screen remote.

It's bacause I live there...
You can use it anywhere worldwide as long as the host TV and the destination have internet access. You will be logging in through your home network.

Will sling box work from motorhome?

I will be camping at national parks in US and in Canada and don't want to miss any football games. I just bought new 1080 flat screen and am looking for easiest and cheapest way to get tv.

As long as you have internet access wherever you go, you shouldn't have a problem. The 500 model works both hardwired as well as WiFi. If you are not hardwired at both ends set video quality to standard for best streaming.
