These phones were advertised as compatible with the other VTech phone system on the Best Buy website. They are not - somebody goofed. Best Buy does not even carry the correct compatible phone. The return was painless and hassle-free.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

These phones were an excellent price and perform very well, at least as good as the prior version of VTech phones. I would recommend them to anyone.

Can the 6709 hand set be used as a single cordless phone or do I need the complete set up

The 6709 will only work with the complete set up.
