This is the first time I have ever used a combination modem/router. I decided to purchase this model since I was replacing my existing modem and router and the total cost for the new ones separately was equivalent to the cost of this with a warranty. I have to say that I like the sense of one point of failure instead of two (with the separate modem and router).
The modem itself should have been easy enough to set up however my service provider (Cox) kept having issues on their side. After performing a software upgrade on the modem, they were finally able to successfully activate it (two calls for a total of two hours).
Setting up the router should have been painless however, the administrative password provided in the documentation was incorrect. I had to contact Arris (formerly Motorola) support to get the correct administrative password. According to Arris, the documentation has been updated with the new password however the systems have not been updated to reflect it. After that, setup was relatively easy. I had to figure out where some things were on the menus, i.e., where to change the administrative password, etc.
Other than that, I reset everything to my previous SSID and WEP password and everything has been working fine. One good thing so far is that I have not seen a drop in connectivity on my laptop like I experienced with my previous router and modem.
I would recommend this to a friend!

For some reason, the setup disk would never find the router. I had to keep going back to the previous step and then forward again, in addition, to powering down/up the router, to try to get it to find it.
I just chalked it up to a bad unit and returned it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this router for my mother to replace her old one that stopped working. Setup was very easy and allowed me to reuse the same SSID, WEP password, etc. I really like it when it only takes 5 minutes to get something working.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this modem for my mother to replace her Motorola DOCSIS 2.0 and so far it has worked like a charm (it's only been two weeks). However, the only issue at the time was getting it activated properly though my cable provider (Cox). They kept saying it was getting the signal however I could not access the internet.
I informed them that they had a bad node in my area and that the modem kept defaulting to the bad node. After about an 45 minutes of them resending/resetting the signal and turning on/off the modem, then the modem finally failed over to another node and it has worked like a charm ever since.
It seems like surfing the internet is faster than before even though she has the lowest internet service.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does this modem have wireless capability
Does this modem have wireless capability or do I require my access point still?
This modem does not have a built-in router so you would still need to use your access point.

Will this work with Cox? And do I need anything else besides the modem if I'm ordering internet and TV from them?
Yes, this is on Cox's approved modem list. If you need to connect more than one device for internet access, then you should purchase a router as well or get a modem/router combination.

Does this modem have a telephone jack like comcast modems for phones?
No, there are no phone jacks
