Can you send, copy and retrieve files and data back and forth to this external drive, without using a backup software program?
Yes, no problem, this is exactly the reason why I bought it (multiple times).

Do you need to buy a special backup software program. Does it work well with Windows 10 PRO and Windows 10 Home versions?
No extra backup program needed. It comes with a company program, I personally don't use this program.

Can this drive be used instead of USB drive. Has the same flexibility as a USB to copy, send and retrieve files and data?
Affirm, it has the same functions as a USB drive, is a bit larger though, but not too large to prevent easy handling

Does WD stand for Western Digital. AC powered Hard Drives are faster than just USB?
Not necessarily. The speed comes from the type of connection. i.e. USB 2.0 or USB 3.0.
This Hard Drive has USB 3.0.

Im not getting this to just have my files backed up..my reason for purchase is simply to gain plenty of extra storage.

This mirror storage device has two separate hard drives. The description refers to 4 TB, but that could mean 4 TB storage w/ another 4 TB mirror drive OR it could actually mean 2 TB with the other 2 TB being the mirror portion.
Storage is 4TB, no mirror.
