This receiver works fine for driving a 7.1 surround with a bit of adjustment. By default the main towers and center drown out the surrounds, this can be adjusted however. Wish is the default would push more power to the surround channels, but for the price it's hard to beat

That could be a driver or hdcp issue, you may have to do additional research based on the specific brands of equipment you're using. It works fine for me using hp laptop with intel video to tcl uhd tv.

Tower unit on its side?
I'm planning to use this 1500 tower style battery back up in my entertainment cabinet. Can I use the tower unit if is it laying on its side instead of standing up?
The battery is a sealed lead acid type, so theoretically orientation should* not matter, as with all things of this nature your mileage might vary. There are units available which are designed with horizontal mounting in mind, so you do have options.

I have a projector that pulls 14 amps would this ups work or would I need another one?
It should work, however backup time will be rather limited, some "hacks" actually augment the internal battery with an external one (say a car battery). Based on the power requirements of your projector you may* need to get a larger unit, 120V times 14A is 1680VA, however typically the power listed is the maximum power draw, not necessarily the continuous usage. In a pinch I would get this unit, ideally a higher capacity unit would likely be more appropriate.

How do you open battery compartment.?
I pushed the two tabs on the bottom, but nothing moved. What do I do next?
Ensure that the unit is on its side or upside down (the battery is a bit heavy and can make the release tricky sometimes), you may need to apply a little bit of pressure to release the cover, just be careful to not break any of the securing tabs. As long as you follow the directions you should be good to go.

the software that is included with this UPS i believe its called powerchute, once we plug the usb in from the APC UPS to the desktop computer and the software installs, do we have to keep the usb plugged in at all times for the software to work properly?
In a nutshell, the answer to your question is yes, the software allows for a "graceful" shutdown of the connected PC. With no connection the PC will not "know" that the ups is going to run out of power and as such can have an abrupt shutdown which can lead to data loss or corruption which is what the unit is geared to protect against. Note that the unit will continue to supply power until the battery runs down even if the cable is not connected.

can you put two together
Sure you can, as long as the router has the capacity to support the number of ports, this is not a managed switch or a router, you'll still most likely need a router or other host to manage the connected devices as it will not automatically generate addresses for attached equipment (DHCP).
