Hidden gem in the desktop speaker field. Don't be fooled by their size. These speakers have great power and boom. Actually had them hooked up to my 60" lcd through the RCA connection and i was blown away at how they changed my tv viewing expwrience. Much better soundstage than a typical soundbar. great for music. Cerwin vega delivered.

What's great about it: comfort, sound
What's not so great: no gold-plated connector
I've tried many types of headphones over the years, but i find myself always coming back to these Bose headphones. I've bought a pair for every member of my family over the years. I swear by them. They stay in your ears nice and secure, very comfortable for hours on end. The sound is great. Not tons of bass, but it's definitely present, don't get me wrong.
I noticed on the 2012-2013 editions of Bose headphones, they stopped using the gold-plated connector for the jack, which is found on pretty much all high-end headphones, and makes for a better connection. This nickel-plated connector is a bit of a let-down, I have to say. I notice a crackling sound in the earbuds when my plug moves in the jack on my iPod. I don't hear a sound when I use a gold-plated connector. That's why this version only gets 4 stars.

What's great about it: Comfortable, neutral sound
What's not so great: Would prefer a little more low end oomph
Saw these in the Magnolia section. Tried them out with my ipod in the store. Sounded good, and the pricepoint was fair enough for a pair of over the ear headphones. Unlike many other makes and models that use a leather (or leatherette) material for the padding, these cushions are wrapped in a soft upholstery memory foam. They were actually no more or less comfortable than other headphones i've tried, to be honest, but just thought it was worth mentioning.
Anyway ---- on to the sound. Sennheiser touts these as entry-level auduiophile headphones. And they probably are. I think most headphones that fall into this category are tuned to be either relatively flat, or neutral sounding. And if that's what you are looking for, you won't be disappointed. These cans definitely had a good balance across the lows, mids, highs. But if you're looking for serious low-end oomph, you might want to try some of the other headphones that are regarded as "bass monsters"---- like the Beats or Sony x-series. But overall, good sounding headphones.

The Companion 2 Series III system delivers a significant performance upgrade over your computer's conventional speakers. TrueSpace stereo digital signal processing reproduces wide, lifelike sound from just 2 speakers.

What kind of volume do these speakers have with a laptop?

Great power. You won't be disappointed. Control the volume either through the volume knob on the speakers or the volume control on your laptop. Plus they have an extended bass feature. Just hook them up through the headphone jack of your laptop.

compares to...

Hi, i'm interested in this product, I've two questions.

Do I need a headphone amplifier for Ipod use?
Do you know if there are other products woth similar quialty to compare with?

Thanks so much
To answer the first part of your question ---- i don't think an amplifier is necessary to use these headphones with an ipod. I tried it with mine and it sounded good. Didn't have to turn the volume up any higher than i normally would (midway point). However, these headphones really came alive, as expected, when plugged into a stereo receiver with the included 1/4 inch adapter. But that's probably true with any set of headphones.

As far as what compares to it ----- i'm afraid i can't be of much help. For me, the Beats Pros sounded MUCH better. However, they clamp down on my head so tight that they are impossible to listen to for more than 30 minutes. And they cost $400, which is kind of ridiculous.
