There were some problems in setting up this device. The "Quick Start Guide" had the default password in the "Start the Gateway Web Manager" part of the guide as being "password". This is wrong it should be "motorola". Recommending this to a friend would have to include this correction.

easy to install?
I do no have all the computer smarts.can a woman install this or. Do I need a tech?
Yes, Although I have a number of years experience in electronics, each new addition is a relearning process. I wound up calling Motorola for technical help and Tim of Motorola walked me through. They are truly helpful--just call them.

Does the unit have a switch to disable the wifi when not in use?
No. It does not have a Wi-Fi off/on switch.

Does it work with Time Warner phone service?
I have TV, Internet, & phone. Can it work with all three services?
We have Time Warner TV and internet service at both work well. I would expect the addition of the phone service would work equally well as I believe that the phone service works over the internet and therefore is simply a software application.

Receive decent signal strength, but Internet Smart Apps times out in 15 minutes.
Is this a modem/router issue or Internet Service Provider? Samsung Smart TV is located within 35 feet, receives a good signal for 15 minutes then it drops out.
Northland Communications is Cable provider, get decent speed, anywhere from 12MBPS - 21MBPS wireless.

Our Smart TV is a 40" Toshiba and we've had no problem with it timing out. I can't address what would happen with a Samsung TV, but I suspect that its their app that is the problem.

would i put my modem ,where the wire comes in the house
would the best spot for your modem be at the beginning ,where the wire comes in the house
I tried it out with a signal splitter at the point where the cable comes into our house and master bedroom. It is then routed to the front of the house for the living room TV. The modem was tested here In addition, we have a separate input to our house that comes into my office. This is the one that we settled on. The modem/router worked equally well in all the above configurations.

Does it work with Att wireless
It works with the Wi-Fi network that we have with our computers, our printer and Smart TV. I can't attest to other wireless networks being compatible..
