This item to me is necessary to have if you are buying the lock. Without this, you have to be next to the lock in order to operate it. That makes the lock with out this kinda useless... but WITH the Connect, now the lock is great.. I live in an apartment and oddly the super doesnt have the key, so he called to be let in to do some work on my heat, so bingo.. log in, let him in. Similarly, my son forgot his keys, he called me, I let him in.. awesome.
Here's the issue.. I find sometimes if there's a brown out, or power goes out.. when its restored, sometimes the Connect doesnt talk to the lock or my router.. I find I have to often unplug it and plug it in a few times before it works.. Also, the time it takes to talk to the lock when you request the status on your phone can sometimes take longer than your patience..
I would recommend this to a friend!

Installation was simple, had a lot of trouble calibrating it initially.. the android software may be to blame.. Had some issues, but worked thru them and got success after some frustration.
Have it for a few months now, somethings are good.. the auto unlock feature works great.. some not so good.. sometimes it wont communicate to the phone and you find yourself hitting the button on the phone longer than it would have taken you to open with a key..
Overall good products, needs to mature a bit.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I was all but ready to abandon my samsung s4 for the iphone 6, but the purchase of this Gear Watch has renewed my love for not only my phone, but samsung.. great product.. stylish and ingenious. Had some initial issues getting the software to talk to my phone, but eventually got it worked out and everything works great.. takes good pictures, but i dont think most will use it for that.. I like getting my email notifications, text notifications quietly on my wrist while in a meeting or just out with friends. Customizing the clock face is a fun way to "change out" your watch when you feel like a change.. Battery life is really good as well, can last 2 days on a charge and charges up very quickly if you forget to.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Do you have to have the app running on your phone every time you open the door, or can you have it in your pocket?
No, if you set Autounlock to ON in the smartlock app settings on your phone, when ever you return home after the lock has been locked, it will unlock once you (your phone) are inside the geo-fence that can be set in the settings.
You DO need to run the app to open the door "manually".. by pressing the button in the app.

Can this model check facebook messages or notifications and also email
Yes, I get facebook messages on the gear you can select almost any app on your phone that has notifications, to appear on your gear 2.
