Will this work if you don't subscribe to cable TV?
I purchased an LED (1080 by LG) for my mom but she doesn't subscribe to cable TV and I can't figure out how to get her local channels to come through on this new TV. Do I need to purchase an HDMI cable AND this box? Will having both of them fix the problem?!
You can't get full local channels on Roku - you can add an antenna to your TV to pick those up. But...I added the free Roku app called 'Live Stream' and did a search for my local TV stations and found two of those so can watch the local news and weather. For most of the other shows on local channels you can watch those if you add HuluPlus for $7.99 per month. There are some shows you can't get on Hulu - Big Bang Theory, Judge Judy to name a couple, but you can watch those on their websites for free. Good luck. Roku is great from what I've seen - very happy with it. And you will need an HDMI cable to hook the Roku to your TV.
