Why is there not all six cartridges needed to replace all the colors ?

I can't exactly answer for shelf life but I have not had any problems with these batteries. I haven't had to change any out excessively. We keep one each of the AA & AAA and haven't had any problems with them working when we need them. Hope that helps.
