What's great about it: Good value, picture quality excellent.
What's not so great: Limited 60Hz refresh rate
This is a great entry level monitor that i picked up for gaming. Its a good bang for your buck and has little to no latency issues, especially with anti-aliasing or V-sync. I got it on sale, and it does everything you can expect a monitor to do, only better
This product has... Attractive design, Easy to setup, No speakers, HDMI connection

When I connected the HDMI Cable

I have no sound when I connected the HDMI Cable
Because there is no speaker on this monitor, buddy :) plus if i were you, i would invest in some quality headphones, or an external studio speaker system. A $40 speaker system will do just fine

Red Color?

I'm curious about what the red color is and how it affects viewing the screen - will it affect my perception when using the monitor for color editing of photographs?
It wont really. The red is not very noticeable (in my experience) unless i turn off the display and actually look at the sides. Its just for the looks :)

VGA Cable

Does the screen come with a VGA cable?
Yes, although the included HDMI port would work for a better HD connection. If you have the money, invest in a HDMI cable for a better viewing experience.
