Controls the majority of devices out for the past 5 years, but only infra-red type devices. This is not an RF or BT enabled remote. That requires a different remote with additional equipment to translate the signal to a BT or RF transmitter.

What's great about it: Small, simple, and easy to use with android devices

What's not so great: Currently only has limited sources to stream from, but more and more companies are making services compatible with it.

The Chrome Cast device is a small wireless network streaming adapter. You can use your phone, tablet or even computer, to have a video stream coming into your home, office, etc., and display on your connected television. When using a phone or tablet, the device becomes the remote control and lets you play, pause, skip and switch to other videos to watch as you see fit. If you have multiple TV's with a Chrome Cast connected to each TV, you can start watching something on one tv, go into another room and have it start up exactly where you left off on a different tv. It's get better as more and more companies are adding Chromcast support to their video services.

What's great about it: Incredible screen clarity, speedy CPU/GPU, Pure Android, unified memory architecture.

What's not so great: Lack of external memory options. USB OTG is limited to Keyboards ad Mice. Root access needed to use Flash Drives

Having owned 3 2012 models, one 16gb and two 32gb, I love this 2013 model. It's nice that it has a rear camera, good quality too. I don't use it hardly ever, but it is nice to have it for the rare occasion. Slimmer and lighter than the previous model, but doesn't feel like cheap plastic. 32GB is actually about 25GB of usable space. It's quick and responsive.

Pay attention to online deals at bestbuy.com. They had this model at $239 for a weekend once, and the deal I got was when I bought it, I got a Chromecast for free ($35 value) bundled with it.

I use this tablet for quite a lot. Netflix/Youtube, web surfing, gaming, and blogging.

This product is... responsive touch screen, lightning fast, Variety of apps available, Sharp graphics, Easy to navigate, Great screen size, Comfortable to hold

Chromecast overheating and quits working.

I will be watching something through the chromecast and it will just stop working and go blank screen. I can reset it and it will work for a little while and then quit again. Very hot to the touch.

You should contact google directly for troubleshooting and warranty options.

After 4 to 5 months, streaming having issue

I am using this Chromecast , but after 4 to 5 months video streaming is getting stuck & could not use it.

I HAVE NOT PURCHASED FROM BESTBUY.

Contact Google for troubleshooting and warranty if it's deemed defective.

Will Chromecast work with a hot spot?

I would like to us a chromecast in my camping trailer to watch on demand programs. I will be using an AT&T hot spot for my internet reception. Will this device work or do I need something else to do this?

The chromecast can only store one network profile. So if you are using it at home, then want to connect it to your hotspot, you will have to use the chromecast app on your phone to reconfigure it to work with your hotspot. There should be no additional tools/software needed for that.

Yes you can, but it's not 100% straightforward. Google search on "how to setup plex for chromecast" and look for the link for the website allaboutchromecast. You will find a guide there on what is needed.

Can this connect to shared files on a network?

I have an external hard drive connected to my network, as well as files on my desktop i would like to play through the Chromecast. Can the device connect to these shared folders on the network to play these files?

Short Answer, Yes.
Long Answer, google search for "How to setup Plex Media Server for ChromeCast" and you will find the article on how to set it up. It will require a dedicated PC running to serve the video files to Chromecast. Chromecast cannot directly browse to your files.

Is this promotion an extra $20 from Best Buy to allow for a total of $40.00 in credits?
Or is this the same credit that comes with the device from any reseller (from google) for a total of $20.00 in credits??
IS the credit stackable if you purchase more than one device? (aka: one for office and one for living room.) or is the credit only one per google account.

It is the same credit, and it is provided by google. To redeem, you will need to use the chrome web browser on a computer. Install the google cast extension from the chrome web store. Setup your chromecast. The visit the google chromecast offers webpage to redeem your $20.

Since I cannot provide a direct link here, just do a google search for "Chromecast offers" and you will find the link to the correct page.

VGA or HDMI port?

My TV does not have a USB port, but is HD and has VGA and HDMI ports (which we use to play Netflicks through a laptop). Can I use Chromecast if I get a converter cable, eg. USB-to-HDMI?

The Chromecast is not USB. It is HDMI. Since the HDMI specification does not provide power like USB can, you will have to use the included power cord and wall adapter that comes with the Chromecast.

can I watch regular digital television channels if i buy chromecast?

Time Warner Cable wants me to buy the box to rent so i be able to watch what is like ABC, NBC, FOX, PBS, ETC. Ever since the regular channels became digital, they want people to buy a digital television in order to keep watching, but not too long ago, now no channels will display and I was or am thinking of buying chromecast if it allows me to watch these channels again apart from netflix. If this device don't do what i am asking for, should i just buy the one call rabbit tv usb stick?

No, the Chromecast is an internet video streamer, not a digital tv tuner.
