Excellent phone with a lot of features that make it ideal for seniors or folks with various difficulties. The audio is very clear, plus it can be adjusted to increase treble or base if that makes it better for you. It has large numbers with large enough letters so as to make it easy to add names to the directory. The ringer volume and answering machine volume can be adjusted to be quite loud if needed. A red light illuminates when the phone is ringing. If so desired (and you have caller ID), you can set it up to announce who is calling - although the computer voice reading the caller ID has a lot of pronunciation problems - so I did not find this very useful. The manual is easy to follow to set up or turn off any of these features, although the menu options are pretty intuitive if you have ever used a similar phone in the past.

What's great about it: Good for basic computing
I use this for travel when I need more than my iPad. Lightweight for hauling thru airports. I use it mostly for Internet and Microsoft Office programs, so can't speak to its use for gaming, Skype, etc. The touchscreen makes it easy to switch between the usual Windows 8 and the traditional desktop mode. Has all the ports I need (USB x 3, Ethernet, HDMI) plus WiFi. And I can use it as a tablet with its virtual keyboard so I don't have to prop it open as a laptop (and access things that need Adobe Flash, which the iPad can't do).
This product is... A touch pad that works great, A nice compact size, easy to set up

Best Buy carries additional handsets. They are AT&T model CRL30102. If they are not carried in the store, you can order from BestBuy.com.

Does the base have a battery backup for power outtages?

Have phone through cable provider and battery backup on modem. If power fails and phone modem is still working, will the phones work or will they stop working because base needs electrical power.
The phone base needs electrical power to operate - there is no battery back-up in the base. That is why you need to have one corded phone available to use when the power goes out.

How to I record my outgoing message ' Hi, this is xxx, please leave your name and number and . . . . ' How?

Follow the instructions in the owner's manual. They are pretty detailed.

can the handset stand on end when using speaker phone ?
No. The handset is not flat on the end, so does not stand up without being in the base.

Such access would require a password provided by the owner.
