This device is easy to setup and use. After unpacking I plugged it in and adjusted the TV to the input source. Next I downloaded the Chromecast app for my phone. I finished configuring (set the name, time and chose a background theme) the device in about 10 minutes. I then opened up my ESPN app and started watching the game. Great stuff. I have had no issues on any apple (4S, 5S and mini) or Android devices casting. It is so easy to use that my 4 yr old can cast his Netflix cartoons without any assistance. :)

I would recommend this to a friend!

Can Chromecast be used as a general PC-to-TV device?

Can Chromecast be used to simply duplicate my PC's screen on the TV, independent of any apps or browser? That is, can I see on TV whatever I am doing on my PC, say work on a Word doc or Excel spreadsheet, browse internet with Firefox, etc...?
If not, do you know of any device that will do that?

Yes/No, you can cast just about anything if you can open it in a chrome browser. If you are using OneDrive and navigating in Word/Excel through a Chrome Browser you can put it on your TV. I know they are working on extensions for other browsers but for me if it doesn't work in Chrome than I am probably not going to use is it. Hope that helps...
