This 2.5" enclosure was needed to migrate a failing spinning hard drive to a new solid state drive. It was very straight forward to setup and use, and worked perfectly. The aluminum case is so much nicer than the plastic one I used last time, and I expect to put an external drive into this as a nice portable drive when on site at clients.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent picture quality, and straight-forward setup. Had planned to buy the 55" version but after prepping the wall where this screen is hanging, realized that the 65" model was better. Have watched several Blu-rays on it and am very happy with the image, contrast, black levels, speed and overall clarity of the Sony.

Needed a backup device for multiple computers, and wanted some to work virtually regardless of physical location - which strongly suggested a cloud solution. This seems to be a good fit, so we'll see over time if that proves right.

What's great about it: Extends the capacity of your DVR, and with FIOS it was really plug and play.
What's not so great: Not a single thing - rock solid piece of gear
I was getting frustrated with the relatively small capacity of my FIOS DVR, and was constantly either making choices about what to delete or just letting the DVR delete the oldest material to make room for new programs. HD programming just eats up the space. Researching ways to solve this problem, I found this DVR expander. According to reviews, it would work to add capacity - and that's exactly what it does. Installation was simple - take it out of the box, connect the HDMI cable, plug it in and use the FIOS setup menu to tell the DVR the extender was installed. Once I did, it worked perfectly. I can't see any performance difference and I don't have to delete programs anymore.

do you have to replace operating system when you replaced a failed hard drive
Yes. Hope you have the original installation disks or a complete image backup. But cheer up, by the time you're done you have the latest versions of all your software with all the patches!

External SSD Hard Drive
I just finished a search of BestBuy and could not find any external SSD hard drives for a desktop PC (portable not necessary). Lots of external hard drives shown, but none show as SSD. Suggestions please?
Sure - buy an external enclosure and an SSD. Pop the drive into the enclosure, hook it up via the USB connection, and then partition/format the drive any way you need. At the moment, a 1TB SSD is the largest I know of that's commercially available, but I'm sure larger drives are coming soon.

I'm guessing from your question you want to replace an existing hard drive on your MAC. I would highly recommend using a solid state drive - they're faster and much better performing. There are a number of SSDs on the market so it's become a matter of preference. I just installed a 1TB SSD and it's awesome. Check the support web sites for the manufacturer you like, buy the drive and then follow their install instructions to the letter.

I had purshased a WD - My Book AV 1TB USB 2.0 and e-sata expander WDBABT0010HBK to use for FIOS tv and it became necessary to change to directv.
Question: will I be able to view movies/programs on my tv the recordings I had in the expander????

It is very unlikely you will be able to view material you recorded on this WD drive while using a FIOS box when you change to DirecTV. And the bad news is that you probably cannot plug the My Book into someone else's FIOS box and be able to see the recorded material either. Don't know if you can use the MyBook on DirecTV, but you should be able to find that out on their web site - search support for MyBook and see what others have posted.
