Fire vs smart tv?

Is this box essentially converting a HDMI TV to a smart TV? What is the difference between a smart tv and a dumb tv with a Amazon?
DOes it matter how old my TV is to work...as long as I have HDMI? My current tv is about 8
Yes it's basically converting your standard tv into a smart tv. As long as you have an HDMI cable and input it works.
