So far so good. Have had it for couple of months now and quite satisfied with results so far. Only issue I've seen is random disconnect from Bluetooth. Still need to figure out why its doing this.

Do you need to use the app to control devices in cabinets

It looks like you can use blue tooth from your smart phone/ipad etc to control hidden devices but can the remote control also control dvd players and other devices behind closed doors?

Yes, the remote is RF and can control devices in cabinets.
