Samsung S7 Edge is super fast and the perfect size. I had a Note 5 so I skeptical about going with a smaller phone. They are pretty close in size. I haven't had an opportunity to miss my pen yet.

What's great about it: Great camera
What's not so great: dropped calls
Samsung is excellent! This phone has enough features to keep you busy. I have had a few calls drop but this could be my sim card. The stylus is a plus. Messages can be typed or written. Camera works great! If you use it a lot then the battery may drain. It last me through a 12 hour night at work with some texting and music.

Why is text messaging not listed as an option on the note 3?

Not sure what you mean but texting included with your plan. On your phone it may read as messaging.

How are contacts transferred (imported) from existing account? (Droid 4)

If you a google account and you have your contacts synced with google all you have to do is log into the new phone.
