I weighed a couple of options between modem and router tandem setups vs cable modem wifi gateways and landed with this one. I decided to save a few bucks in the long run by getting the 1 piece system which works great with my setup - Cox Communications service with premium speeds.
On wifi and hard wired, I get the same exact speeds when running diagnostics and always exceed what Cox has allocated for what I'm paying for. I'm in a pretty solid (albeit not brick) standard layout 1050 sq ft apartment and I don't see any drop in signal no matter where I am. We constantly run 2 phones, 2 laptops, a tablet, and 2 Xbox 360's on wifi and haven't had a single problem. Yes, two of almost everything used very often between gaming and streaming.
Just as a note, be sure to download the NetGear Genie software onto your primary computer so that you can properly setup and manage your network and router settings. There was no problem getting it recognized and running on the Cox service. There was an automatic prompt when connecting that allowed me to get it synced with my service in <15 minutes (The cable guy ran out of patience and gave up, trying to get me to buy/rent their garbage generic one - I replied "no thanks," waited until he left and did it myself).
SUMMARY
- simple to setup
- Genie software is easy and helpful
- perfect for 1000 sq ft 1 floor apartment
- connects multiple heavy devices without throttling or problems
- easy to store around other devices
- no loss in speed or signal
- compatible with Cox cable service
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does the netgear N450 have a telephone jack? Does the N600 have one??

I can speak for the N600:
It does not have a 'standard' telephone cord jack, just 2 cat45 Ethernet output ports for hard wiring devices. There is also a USB port (can connect a printer on the network).
