I have the Companion 20 series multimedia system. There is a cable that connects the two speakers- it is hard wired into the right speaker and plugs into the left (main) speaker. Can I extend the distance between speakers with an accessory cable?

Maybe with velcro. There are NO holes on the back of the speakers for wall hooks.

Does Insignia™ - USB-Powered Portable Speakers work for ipods and mac?

The mini plug would fit, but these speakers require a standard USB port for power. I don't believe Ipods have standard USB ports.

can't hook up to TV

Salesman sold this to hook up to my LG 24" TV to get more sound. But TV has no USB port or headphone jack. Is it possible to hook up?

These speakers require both USB, (for power), and mini plug, (for sound). connectors.

They do sell extension cords for both USB and mini plug cables.

can i plug headphones into the back of the speakers?

with some speakers for computers you can plug headphones into them. Can these do the same or no?

No, there are no plugs on the speakers for any add-ons.

Valid Configurations?

OK having both a USB and a mini-plug confused me for a minute.

Are both of these configurations correct?

* Laptop with a CD player, USB port and a mini-jack - only the USB connection is required, both power and audio are fed through USB, can play CDs in the CD tray or any audio file on the hard drive. (or do you also have to connect the mini-plug?)

* Laptop with no CD player, and separate audio source (like a portable DVD player that also plays CDs) - use the USB connection to the laptop for power and the mini-plug connected to the headphone jack of the DVD player for audio.

The mini plug is for receiving the sound. The USB plug is for power to the speakers.

Work without a sound card?

The sound card on my computer is dead. Will this work without getting a new sound card?

I use it on a laptop. It just redirects the sound produced by the laptop to the external speakers instead of the built-in speakers. I believe if you don't have a sound card, you won't get sound from the speakers.
