I had originally set out to buy a dishwasher for less than $300. The trouble, as I found out, is that at that price point they're all the same. Frigidaire, GE, KitchenAid, Kenmore, Whirlpool... They're essentially all the same dishwasher made by Whirlpool in Clyde, OH. And the feel of those units gives you a sense that not only are they cheap, they're also inexpensive. At the next ($400-ish) level, you have Samsung, LG, Bosch -- and more expensive versions of the Whirlpool.
For me, it was a bit of a roll of the dice. I like our Samsung refrigerator (8 years old now), and I liked the stainless interior of this one, as well as the lack of heating elements inside the tub. This was a point that some people said was less desirable, butI like being able to put plastic things (like blender carafes and Delrin cutting boards) on the bottom, without melting them.
Installation was no more or less difficult than any other dishwasher, but the channels on the bottom of the dishwasher that provide places for the electrical and plumbing hookups is a nice touch. Similarly, the rear height adjustment (from the front) as well as leveling feet at the front makes for easy, perfect leveling.
Within reason, everything that goes in comes out clean and spot free (with a rinse agent). Sure, if you put bowls in the top with dried on oatmeal, they probably won't come clean. That's not really the dishwasher's fault. It's very quiet, and all the controls, and everything you touch (racks, baskets, etc) has an upmarket feel to it. Think: the interior fit and finish of an Acura/Infiniti/Lexus. Nothing feels like it's going to break off in your hand like, say, the windshield wiper control stalk on my 18 year-old Subaru. But that was the sense I got from the Whirlpool-based stuff.
Some complained that there's not enough granular control over the cycles and settings. I don't know. I put it on SmartAuto+ and let it do its thing. Everything comes out so fresh and so clean, clean #OutKast.
For $400, I think it's a very nice dishwasher, and I would buy one again.
I would recommend this to a friend!

does this unit come with side mount brackets??

for solid counter tops where top mounting screws are not used, does this unit come with side mounts or would they need to be purchased separately?
Yes, but...

It comes with two screws that are supposed to go in the front/side of the dishwasher. In my case, the screws weren't long enough to matter, so I didn't bother with them. But if you needed to source longer screws, it wouldn't be a big deal.
