I purchased Fire TV during Black Friday. I hooked-up the device the following week. I initially thought I was getting 200,000 free streaming channels, but an Amazon representative stated those are the channels available and provider may charge you a fee. I decided to keep the box because I can use apps with the device. I like the device and the voice recognition that allows me to bring up channels. It's a high end box with good quality video streaming.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I like the computer but wish it was a smaller size. Came with many apps installed.

Stream Existing Owned Movies

Can I stream movies and music that I already own from my computer, a la AppleTV or is it only for Amazon owned/purchased content?
Yes. From the Amazon settings you have to check-off yes to allow android and third party devices to be used with your box. Below is the Amazon's guidebook.

I have followed all directions but get no smart tv it just goes back to station that was on tv when starting this process...

can't fiigure out what I am doing wrong. I have 4 HDMI ports. My cable box is plugged into #2. I plugged FireTV into #4. Does this make a difference?
If you place the HDMI cord in slot 1,2, or 3, make sure you turn to that channel on your remote control. "Look at your HDMI slots in the back of your TV". I do not know your TV model, but use your remote control and press TV to find the HDMI channel signal you are using on your Amazon device.
