The Samsung HW-Q850D is a nice 7.1.2ch soundbar system with a amplifier rated at 200W output. To get the full potential of this system you can pair this with a 2020-2024 Samsung TV this allows for the Q Symphony integration. Q-Symphony is Samsung's high-end audio technology that allows compatible TVs and soundbars to play sound at the same time in sync. Simply put, instead of muting your TV speakers, this feature lets your soundbar use them to facilitate an enhanced surround sound experience.
In most modern TVs, speakers are at the back of the screen. But in Q-Symphony-enabled TVs, the speakers are placed on the top corners. When these are paired with your soundbar, the result is a more immersive audio experience. So, don’t be scared away if you don’t have a Samsung TV that can take advantage of the Q Symphony – you just loose the sync capability with the TV’s speakers.
This unit works well using standard HDMI 2.0 connections ( HDMI and HDMI ARC and a HDMI output). You can also use digital audio in (optical), Bluetooth and WiFi. So, don’t be scared away if you don’t have a Samsung TV that can take advantage of the Q Symphony.
Game Mode Pro works well with gaming consoles and gives good gaming sounds plus 3D optimized sound. I tested this on a PS5 and it worked quite emersively when I chose to use the system instead of headphones.

The 7.1.2ch True Dolby Atmos sound allows you to fill the room with captivation sound without the need for a full AV receiver system. This sound bar supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and Surround Sound. I found certain movies are not optimized for conversion of sound to a home speaker systems especially putting voice at a lower volume then music or sound effects. The intelligently optimized audio makes up for this and allows you to hear voices better, even at low volume. The Active Voice Analyzer gives this feature an additional boost since it breaks down room noise and optimizes onscreen voices.
SpacceFit Sound Pro calibrates the unit to the space and environment in the room that you have the unit and automatically optimizes the audio accordingly. This is good for people that hate to use a tone generator with a lot of repositioning and Q&A to get optimum sound.
The surround speakers hook to a module that is plugged into an outlet for power then are hooked up by wires to the two surround speakers. It works and eliminates not having to recharge or directly plug in the two speakers to power.

A couple of disappointments: One is that it doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 which is surprising since this is the current level of HDMI. The instruction sheet makes things look more complicated than it truly is to set things up and has some blatant typos. Also I don't know if they will have a manual on their web page but at this point Samsung only has a genetic manual available there. Though it has a wireless surround speaker set up it doesn’t have a wireless Subwoofer. The Surround speakers hook to a wireless module with wires making the placement a little more clunky than it needs to be.
This unit has great sound and isn’t a disappointment plus if you have the correct Samsung TV you get some added benefits by not just having the TV’s speakers turned off or out of sync with the sound system.

Sony Wireless Noise Canceling Stereo Headset
The headphones are very comfortable to wear – had them on for a few hours at work with my glasses on and had absolutely no discomfort. My ears are on the large size but the ear cups fit nicely and the cushion formed well around my ears. I wore them in my car for a short trip to the store and had no problem hearing the traffic noise over the music playing.

The headphones paired nicely with my Android phone (Galaxy S20 FE 5G Android version 13). At first the headphones were confusing on how to make them work but once I downloaded and launched the app (ULT WEAR) it was quite easy to follow the instructions. It took me step by step on how to pair the headphones with the phone. The way the software has you adjust the equalizer setting was very easy to use and also easy to reset in case you wanted to change the settings.
I was using local radio station app to listen to music and if the headset volume was not set up near high I kept getting a text message on the phone to increase the volume – but the message was not clear as to what volume – the phone or the headset. I also noticed when I was driving away from my house as I got out of the blue-tooth range – the headset went silent for about 20 seconds before it reconnected to the station.

My computer at work does not have blue tooth but I could use the audio cord and I was able to hear sound from the computer. I edited voice narration on the computer and the sound from the headphones matched the high end computer speakers I use.
My tablet is a little older model (SM-T713 Android version 7.0) and the UTL WEAR app did not work with the headphones. I was able to use the headphones without the app and could hear the videos I tested clearly with good sound quality.
Not sure how long the charge worked for the headphones as I used them at work for about 3 hours over 2 days and then they sat turned off for 3 days and the charge was down to 10%.
It paired well with both my tablet and phone and I could easily switch between the two without any need to repair the headphones. Since I used an audio cable with it at work this did not interfere with the pairing of the headphones to my phone and tablet.
Sony has a good reputation for quality headphones and this model meets those standards. The workmanship of all the parts is an extension of their design work in previous models. The buttons are easy to use while wearing the headset. The sound quality is outstanding and the equalizer adjustments make it easy to tailor the sound to your listening preference. It also has great noise canceling features that block out all unwanted sounds. Unlike some earlier models it comes with a very nice EVA case that is light-weight and protects the headphones. The unit may not be the smallest and lightest out there but they are a great set of headphones.

PHILIPS NORELCO SHAVER 3600 Rechargeable Wet & Dry electric shaver with Pop-Up Trimmer and Storage Pouch
Great little shaver – it has a nice feel and weight. It feels well-made And easy to control. The razor is light, feels good in the hand and has a good gripl. As stated in the guide there may be some irritation until your skin gets used to the shaver. Yes, it irritated my skin. I have a coarse beard and sensitive skin. They say up to 21 days to adjust. But after several uses, it no longer irritated my skin. It has a built-in trimmer. The shaver is easy to clean up just rinse it under the tap. It is recommended that the heads be replaced every year, but these are reasonably priced.
I shaved half my face wet and half dry with comparable results. The wet side with shave soap seemed to get a close shave a little faster. It is waterproof, and you can use it in the shower, which is a nice feature. I usually use a blade to shave, and now I am happy with an electric razor. It is easy to use, fast, and can be taken with you and used on the fly. I also tried it dry, but after a preshave, it worked well, and this is the preferred dry method. I tried it wet with shave soap and shave gel. I would use this dry with a preshave when I am in a rush. But I prefer to use it wet with soap or gel as a close shave is faster and smoother. The battery has a long life. After running it for three days, there really isn’t much of a battery loss. The initial charge was quick.

Ring - Battery Doorbell Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell - Battery-powered with Head-to-Toe HD+ Video
I am using the Ring - Battery Doorbell Pro as a upgrade to my Ring peephole camera. The camera video has been upgraded to 2K, slightly better than Full HD 1536x1536, The fisheye lens (hence head to toe) has a larger field of view and since it is a fisheye it slightly distorts the imager. The image of people is clear enough to be a good identifier. Connection is now through 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz (802.11 b/g/n/ax). I chose 5.0 GHz as this is a better connection for streaming video. It uses the same battery as the older model with the mini-d USB power connection. I can’t tell power usage since I have only had this for a week, but the older unit lasted a long time before needing to recharge (I didn’t use any motion capture and didn’t have pre roll). After a week of use and minimum frequency of motion frequency I have 88% power. There is also an option to hook it up to a doorbell power supply or solar panel. Since I mounted this to my door I didn’t test the power option. You are provided with a charging cable but no charging brick.

The night vision has improved and has a good picture that is clear day or night. You will want to keep the Protect Plus plan since it covers multiple cameras and keeps your videos in the cloud in case you need to offload some video or pics for the police or insurance. The Birds eye view is good for virtualization of movement and tracking of the camera view in relationship to the position the camera is mounted on your house. I do have a wedge added and can see all the way to the foot of the door. It also has plenty of head room with a view several feet up from the top of the door frame. I would like to note here that a lot of the options that are available for earlier models will work with this but to make sure if you use any addons that you select some that state they will work with the Battery Doorbell Pro.
Response time is slightly faster for answering the door ring and I am sure that improvement is due to the updates in the device, software and the fact I am using the 5.0 GHz connection. Delay to answer the door is only a couple of seconds. The auto answer is a nice feature and is customizable. There is a 30 second delay when someone leaves a message. Sound and audio were clear on both the receiving and transmitting end. Tweaking of the camera settings will be refined with time and usage to customize how I want to use the system.
I preferred the Ring peephole camera for having the electronics and the battery on the inside of the home. The current software has more features but there are a few things that could use improvements. Since I share camera and access with my Son where we can act as backup for one another. It would be nice if we had the option to make the other person an Admin so all the features are available at our discretion. Having limited control when we prefer to have all features available when sharing limits tweaking certain features or customization for different situations. An example is that when one of us is away from residence we may want to boost up some of the security features like taking more scheduled snap shots. My wife on the other hand just uses the base features.
Not the prettiest camera out there and some of the competition instead of using a fisheye lens have multiple cameras on their unit but I find the fisheye squarish picture adequate and the limited distortion of people that the videos the camera takes is good for identification and most people wouldn’t even notice any distortion especially centered in the framing. And more generaly equates to higher cost and complexity.

Gigabyte G6 KF Gaming Laptop with 16-inch 165 Hz screen and RTX 4060
This gaming laptop features an Intel i7-13620H processor with 32GB RAM (4800 megahertz DDR5), a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 laptop GPU (w 8GB video RAM) and a 1TB SSD. Weighing in at 5.1 lbs it has a ethernet port, a full set of (4) USB ports (1 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-A 2.0, 2 x USB-C 3.2) and a HDMI 2.1, 1 x Mini DisplayPort. It has WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, while the 54 Wh battery can charge at up to 150 W through a barrel connector. It has a 15-color illuminated keyboard with a numeric pad, stereo speakers, and a 720p webcam which has a pretty wide-angle lens which I noticed during video conferencing (from 70” from the camera it can view 120”). The 16” FHD+ (WUXGA 1920x1200) screen has super-slim bezels with a 165Hz refresh rate. It comes with Windows 11 Home.
This is a decent budget gaming laptop. I found the membrane keyboard to be comfortable and responsive along with the trackpad. Gigabyte is a brand renowned for making high quality gaming hardware. The High-speed storage and large 1TB size gives you rapid boot, quick data transfers for applications and media fie usage. The Graphics gives smooth gameplay, realistic lighting, shadows and reflections. Though I mostly use headphones for gaming the DTS:X Ultra Audio Technology, integrated microphones, and dual 2W speakers gives you decent voice communication, and rich audio quality for gaming, entertainment, and multimedia applications for a set of laptop speakers.
Playing Final Fantasy XIV MMO I find is a good game to compare performance on. On battery in balanced performance, I could get about 30 fps in an area with a high population of players and expected battery life of 2 hours. On full performance mode it goes up to 80 fps but drops the battery life to around 40 minutes, and plugging in the power supply will bring it to 100 fps. Additionally, the laptop remains at a fairly cool temperature on balanced mode that can only barely be felt through the middle of the keyboard, though bringing the battery up to performance will make the laptop noticeably warm and uncomfortable to have in my lap. If you want to use this thing full out on a power cord I suggest you get a laptop cooler to rest it on. On the high-performance mode as well, you can tilt the laptop backwards and hear a slight clicking sound coming from the fans. Projected charge is about 3hrs from empty.

Sennheiser Conversation Clear Plus
The Sennheiser Conversation Clear Plus wireless ear buds are pretty decent. They offer 3 size ear tips and ear fins to allow for customization. They feel comfortable but require some time to get used to them. The longer you wear them the more you get used to them. The battery life is a plus and the case actually charges them when you store the buds. I haven’t had to charge the case yet after using the buds 4-6 hrs a day for a week. There was a firmware update soon after acquiring the system which is always good that they are working on improvements. I had no difficulty pairing /connecting the buds to my phone, tablet, computer or TV.
There are three modes: Relax, Communication and Streaming. Each mode has separate commands appropriate to each mode by use of the buttons on the buds. Controlling volume, switching mode, smart assistant, clarity boost, play/pause. The control commands are easy to find under the Earbud control tab as you learn their function.
Communication: alerts you to the environment you are in and when it changes. There is a control for speech clarity from smoother to clearer. Speech volume from 0-15. And additional clarity boost via an on /off switch. If you receive at notification while in communication mode it will switch to streaming and then go back to communication mode. Now it does take just a second to readjust to the environment in communication mode again. Now it does amplify some of the background noise along with voices and if there is a sharp sound these get amplified as well. Not to a hurtful level but it could use some assistance in the noise cancelling department. An example of this is when I am in a server environment with a lot of fan noise having a conversation the fan noise is still present and amplified, along with key clicks on a clicky keyboard. Clarity boost also boosts these sounds. You still get to hear the conversation but at times have to adjust the overall volume because of these background annoyances. In a noisy space such as a restaurant or event with a lot of noise it definitely helps with boosting conversation. It also helps while watching TV not using the stream mode and being able to hear comments from your friends and family.
Relax: this is basically a noise cancelling mode to shut down the outside sound. You can adjust the external sound from 0 to 100%. And it does a decent job of turning off outside sound. It would be interesting to see how this works in an airplane environment but I haven’t been able to test this out yet.
Stream: Works well but it could use an equalizer set of controls to adjust how you hear the streaming and it could definitely use some Brass upgrades as far as I am concerned. You have the ability to adjust the amount of background noise while listening to your media. So, you can shut outside things out or add some background sound when needed.
A few improvements that would be nice are: the ability to adjust sound volume percent on one bud vs the other. The ability to knock out certain frequencies of background noise or smart detection of noise in the environment that could be eliminated.
All in all a good set of buds to help out in the Noisy world we live in but could use some improvements.

Insignia™ - Bluetooth 6-Button Ergonomic Mouse
The Insignia™ - Bluetooth 6-Button Ergonomic Mouse is a good ergonomic mouse if you already have Bluetooth on your computer /Laptop. It works well with both Windows 11 and Windows 10 and android devices. The documents state that it will also work with Chrome and Apple OS devices. I only have used the recommended BT5.0 driver (there is a second driver if you have older Bluetooth device) and the connection was quick and reliable.
The ergonomics is such that it seems like the mouse is sitting on a skewed edge attached to a wide flat bottom. but it is very comfortable in your hand and during use. The large base and lightness of the mouse makes it quick and easy to use. There DPI settings range from 800 to 1200 to 1600 and can be switched in real time. The mouse retains the setting after being turned off and reacquired on the device. The mouse is powered by 1 AA battery which is included. I have only used it for a week so I can not speak to battery life. This is a six button mouse has good buttons, scroll wheel and 2 thumb buttons, overall use is very good. The optical sensors for tracking are very versatile and I was surprised at the different surfaces the mouse would track on which is great in a tablet or laptop device and you don’t have a normal desktop area available. This doesn’t have any fancy lights or indicators with only and on off switch on the bottom along with the connect push button. The buttons aren’t programmable but this is more of a basic, ergonomic, Bluetooth mouse and it does its job well

iRobot Roomba Combo j5+ Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum & Mop
The Roomba Combo J5+ is a great little robot vac that self-empties and has a good amount of smarts built in. The dustbin can be swapped out with a little wet mop and small dustbin vac attachment. I think of the mop more as a damp hard flood dusting instead of what some might think of as mopping since there are no agitators but more on that later.
First up the little robot needs to map the house. iRobot does the smart thing by just sending the little vac around mapping the house, no need to waste battery doing other things just send it out to map. If you didn’t charge it enough or you have an extremely large place it will return to base to charge up then go back to where it left off. After mapping is complete you can name the rooms, block areas and map no mop zones.
First up the little robot needs to map the house. iRobot does the smart thing by just sending the little vac around mapping the house, no need to waste battery doing other things just send it out to map. If you didn’t charge it enough or you have an extremely large place it will return to base to charge up then go back to where it left off. After mapping is complete you can name the rooms, block areas and map no mop zones.
Vacuuming, this is where this little bot shines. It is good at avoiding obstacles and going over throw rugs and has a pretty low profile so it can get under things. The vac is surprisingly quite most robot vacs I have used in the past are very noisy and you really don’t want to schedule them in the rooms you are doing stuff or if someone is taking a nap. But the J5+ had a very reasonable noise level but don’t worry if it gets stuck it will alert you on your phone or tablet app. I never had to get mine out of a jam it is that good at avoiding stuff including when you have cables or wires around or a sock nest or other temporary or permanent obstacles. After the first vacuuming it will ask for you to review obstacles it didn’t understand to let it know if these are permanent and it should set up a blocked area or temporary and it will see if it moves or is removed next time. You can use google assistant or Amazon Alexa voice assistants to tell your little bot what to do. You can make a cleaning schedule or even set things up so it starts when you leave your home or if it is still cleaning when you get back it will ask you if you want it to continue or go back to base. It will also integrate with several other home automation apps.
And yes it does to a good job vacuuming on both hard surfaces and carpet. It is good at transitioning over varying levels and transitions. I have some anti fatigue floor mats in my hard surface kitchen and it proceeded over them with out any effort. It even backed up and re-vacuumed some surfaces that it left a little spot of something behind getting it up the second time. I would say the sensors are very good for doing the best job as well as mapping and avoidance. It will go back to base to empty the dustbin when needed and then go continue where it left off. It is pretty good at figuring out when it runs low on battery and cleans some back close to base prior to plugging in for a recharge then going out to returning to areas it still needed to complete. As far as the dirt collection in the base I have mixed feelings. It uses a throw away bag to collect the dirt and gives you a secondary bag until you can order some more. I have had other robot vacs that have a dirt cup that pops out to throw the dirt away. The dirt cup is less wasteful but has more opportunities to give back dust and allergens back to the air which the disposable bag does not.
The mopping requires on the J5+ combo requires you to load the combo software prior to using the first time. And you have to swap out the dustbin for a mop tank with small dustbin. The mopping is really a damp mop dusting since it does not have an agitator. If you setup a no mop zone and these areas are on the carpet areas surrounding the hard floor area the little bot will tell you it can’t get there and it is blocked. You can pick up the bot and relocate it to the blocked area and it will mop it then return to the area you dropped it off at when finished. Since this bot does not retract the mopping equipment it is making sure you don’t get areas damp on the rug areas. Depending on your carpet material you may or may not be concerned about the damp cloth going across these areas while it goes to a mop zone. To mop things correctly you really need a dedicated mop robot, after all look at what it takes to make a mop machine that does a good mop job.
I did like a feature not available on the J5+ that I had on another botvac where the map shows where the robot is when doing it work. Instead the J5+ only tells you the room it is working on or if it is traveling to or from an area. Is that a big deal? That is for your taste. iRobot does do updates for efficiency, abilities and other improvements both to the bot and to the app interface. I like that I can use the larger interface on my tablet to alter the maps and work with the bot. I can also use it on my phone for automation when not at home or on trips. I keep waiting for someone to come up with an app for a desktop or laptop computer. I guess I am spoiled by large territory.

Bella Pro Series - 6-Slice Air Fryer Toaster Oven with Rotisserie
Bella Pro Series can certainly cook but it falls down in so many other areas. My wife baked a cake and it completed in half the time it takes to do it in a regular oven. You have to carefully monitor this since it will scorch the bottom of the cake. Backed a one pan meal and it came out as expected. Air frying it seems to do the job – no reduction in time in comparison to other air fryer toaster ovens but it gets the job done and produces a quality cook. French fries, egg rolls crab cakes all came out evenly cooked. Toast – yep it does that well and the toast is even on both sides even if you only use it for four or six slices and not six. I did some pre roasted chicken, cheese quesadillas in the toast function and they came out even and browned nicely. Roasting a 4lb chicken on the rotisserie -well here it fell down some by having difficulty during the cycle and getting stuck on rotating. Plus you need to bind the legs and wings tight to make sure it fits. The drip tray does its job when using the rotisserie. I did like the little grabber they have to help get the rotisserie food out of the oven. The control panel is easy to use and pretty plain Jane but it provided simple input.
Pro I think not this unit is very light and basically has no insulation. It doesn’t feel very substantial. The overall unit other than the handle gets really hot with use. Hot enough it will burn you so keep it away from people who may injure themselves with it. I have a high temp silicone mate for it to sit on. After cooking it goes into a cool down state with a cooling fan but it has no sensor so it will just run forever. The instructions want you to unplug the unit when not in use and yea that is how you turn off the cooling fan. The power button does not turn the cooling fan off. I got a three-prong, shorty extension cord with a heavy duty switch so I could easily turn the unit off or on without having to unplug it. The racks unlike a lot of the competition which uses a 14"x12" format uses a 13 ¼” x 10 ¾” format. Instructions are minimal and no mini cook book to give you a start point.
So, all in all it cooks well but it is almost like having a campfire in your kitchen. And having to remember to check on the temperature of the unit so you can unplug it is a pain. Hopefully the manufacturer will learn from this and build a better unit in the future. They have the cooking part down now they need to increase the size a little and build a better box with some sensors and good insulation and do a more robust rotisserie.

Meta Quest 3 VR and MR (mixed reality) headset.
Once you start up the Meta Quest 3 (MQ3) you are immediately emerged in an easy to follow set up tutorial. One of the new features is the adjustments for the lenses (distance between your eyes and the depth adjustment of the lenses themself) – this allowed me to use the MQ3 without wearing glasses. The increased resolution is noticeable and your attention is drawn to this on first use.
The wi-fi and mobile app sync were easy to follow. I would suggest getting a long Link actively powered 16ft (5m) USB Type-C cable either by Meta Quest or a reliable third party. You want to have this for PC based VR titles. It will allow for reliable fast communication between your PC and the Meta quest unit as well as powering the unit instead of using the battery. The cables intended for the Meta Quest have a 90 degree headset connector to allow for draping the cable easily along the arm and over your shoulders, so it is out of the way as you interact and explore. YES you can do these things untethered from the PC but I feel using a cable gives much longer engagement due to no battery life being used and for action players I find the cable connection more reliable better clarity and often better clearer content and better streaming of content.

The boundary setup is much improved from the Meta Quest 2 (MQ2) – it includes more area including walls during the scanning process and then sets up your boundary area.
The in-game app menu has new features adding a boundary around the window for easy visualization of where to grab the window to move it around. The MQ3 suggested boundaries which is quite helpful. This gaming boundary is easy to reset which was problematic on the MQ2. Direct touch is helpful and allows your hands to become the remote when you have laid the controllers down.

The passthrough setting shows your room in much better detail than the MQ2 – and is easily changed by simply tapping on the arm piece of the MQ3.
The straps on the headset are easy to adjust and with the headset lighter then the MQ2 it is less weight on your head. I use the elite head straps for additional improvements. Adjusting the headset itself up and down you can make sure it doesn't press too hard into your face and still let you be able to focus. The slim profile and the facial mask is comfortable and much cooler than the original MQ2.
The sound with the built-in speakers is quite clear and works well. It is not a subwoofer kind of Base but it has good sound along with good positional sound. There is a earphone jack but I didn’t use this feature.
Tried the game Cubism and it was easy to manipulate the objects in the Tetris like game to fit into the puzzles. The controls were extremely easy to use within the game.
Using the Meta Horizon software to create your own worlds was quite easy to use. The movement controls using the joystick on the controllers was easier than the teleport concept in the MQ2.
The controllers are intuitive and precise tracking that they give you are a real pleasure. I find it extremely actuate and natural to use them in first person shooters. Playing some of the sample arcade games made an impression on me at how natural things are. I can use the machine gun like I was born into it and doing a two gun mombo I could take targets down to beat the band. Playing Steam VR Alyx even though it was made for the MQ2 it seemed a lot more enjoyable to me. In Alyx you get to use all of the VR capabilities of the MQ3 and it is quite immersive.

We enjoy the MQ3 and recommend this headset. We look forward to the apps and games developed to use its full potential and mixed reality potential that will make MR and exclusive gaming content to stretch the limits of this VR / MR Device.

This is the Shark - EZ Robot Vacuum RV912S not a Deebot and yes we have throw rugs with that kind of edge which it works well. I have used the deebot and it gets hung up 80% of the time on the throw rugs.

I have satellite internet, will I still be able to print wirelessly? What about the viability of other features with satellite internet instead of high speed internet?
Printing wirelessly to a printer is dependent on your internal WiFi setup and not the connection to the internet. You can also direct print wirelessly with bluetooth and direct from a phone or tablet. Cloud printing would be affected by your satellite internet.
