What's great about it: Easy set up, gives me TV anywhere
What's not so great: minor buffering problems
I really like slingbox. This is my second slingbox. I put one on my family room cable box, which I use when I am away from home. It even works with the DVR, I liked it so well that I bought one for our bedroom cable box so my son would have 'cable' in his dorm. A downside to Slingbox is that the remote viewer needs to watch the same channel as the home viewer, so by putting one on our bedroom cable box, my son can watch what he wants while we watch what we want in the family room, at far less than the cost of paying for a separate cable account for him there.

Can I use slingbox to replace my cable box?

Can I use slingbox to replace my cable box? Would like to get rid of my cable box from Cox and use the slingbox instead of the cable box. Is this possible? If not ,is there a product that this is possible?
No. You connect the sling box to your cable box and then you can watch your cable on your phone, iPad or computer anywhere you have the internet.. You can also watch your home cable tv on a tv in a vacation home, dorm etc. if you have a streaming device on that TV. We use a Roku at our cottage. You can turn your cable box on and watch live or recorded tv that way. However if you change the channel remotely it will also be changed for anyone who is still at home.

does a working receiver need to be hooked up to a tv for slingbox to transmit or can u just hook up slingbox to a working receiver

slinbox-receiver-internet------no tv-------laptop
I am fairly certain that the the receiver does not need to be connected to a TV. The TV definitely does not need to be on.

this equipment can be use in mexico too

We live in Baja California and I want to know if the slingbox work on mexico,
I have not tried it but I have read you can watch it anywhere in the world.
