I purchased this unit to replace my 20-year-old GE over-the-range microwave which finally failed. The installation was fairly straight forward, but it does involve some drilling. Overall, it is a beautiful looking appliance that has a myriad of features and functions and my wife is very happy with it! (the most important feature!)
Pros:
Easy installation
Multiple features
Ease of use
Spinning round table
Large capacity
Pops popcorn like nobody's business
Stainless steel exterior and interior
Cons:
No one-touch time feature (available on most other microwaves)
Interior light is weak
Stainless steel exterior can be difficult to maintain smudge and fingerprint free
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can this microwave be mounted under a cabinet as well ?

That will depend on the cabinet height above the counter and the availability of a wall socket for power. This unit is meant to be placed above a stove and has several venting options for that application. If your intention is to mount it underneath a standard depth cabinet, this unit may not be your best option.

I currently own a model LMV1680ST, which is not working well. Would this model fit directly in its place?

My current microwaves vent fan constantly comes on by by itself intermittently - driving me insane!
I replaced my original GE unit with this LG unit and it fit perfectly, so my guess is it should work in your situation as well as a direct plug in.

Can this be vented to the inside?

Yes, the unit is pre-configured from the factory to vent inside. The air blows up and out of the top front of the unit and is very effective unless you generate a ton of smoke from burning something on the stove.

does everything come with this microwave for installation, power cord etc?

Does everything you need to install this microwave come with it, installation bracket and power cord?
Yes and no.
Yes, if you will not be using an external vent, everything you will need to install comes in the box including wall templates (for determining where to drill the pilot holes), mounting brackets and mounting hardware. The unit it is pre-configured from the factory to vent from the top front of the unit.

If you decide to vent the unit externally, you will need to reconfigure the factory vent settings (not a big deal). No external venting hardware is included so that must be purchased separately.

You will need a drill, screwdrivers and a stud finder to install the unit.

How far away from the surface of the range (burner area) does the microwave have to be mounted?

The manufacturer recommends 36 inches from the top of the burners to the bottom of the unit. I measured the distance on my install at 31.5 inches and after two months, this does not seem to be a problem at all.
