What's great about it: Efficient, quiet, and BIG.
What's not so great: BIG.
When it was time to select a washer and dryer, my husband and I knew we wanted top-end machines. I have been BLOWN AWAY by my LG's - I got the matching set. The buttons are intuitive and simple - you don't have to select a million options, because it knows the weight. I've never had a huge load wash and dry so fast (I FILLED it with my husbands t-shirts) and every one smelled and looked perfect. I use the "damp dry" setting for his button-downs - only a perfectionist would bother ironing them after - they look great after a hang-dry. My towels came out super fluffy. The lint trap is HUGE and easy to remove. The doors swing wide open (and if you put washer left, dryer right, they swing out away from eachother for easy transfer of clothes).
There is no rattling - we can hardly hear the machines from the next room - but when they are done, they sing a happy tune (Youtube LG Washer Song linked on the right) - which just puts me in a better mood about doing laundry.
They are quite large, but I'm excited to try and wash my comforter in it. I put one mega-load of tshirts in the dryer and it beeped an error message at me 3 minutes later - I looked at the cheat-sheet (laminated and with a suction cup to keep on the side of the machine!) to figure out the code and it said "unbalanced load". I moved everything around a bit, restarted it, and had no problems.
This product is or has... Big enough capacity for a comforter, Stability, so it doesn't vibrate my house, All the cycles I need, Acceptable level of noise, Great at getting wrinkles out, All the settings I need

Do I need to buy hoses separate from the washer cost?

Do I need to buy the hot and cold water hoses plus the drain hose separate from the actual washer?
Yup, you need to buy them. It did not come with the hoses. That said, they are very cheap and easily obtained at Home Depot (though Best Buy sells them too).

Can the power be connected directly to the machine?

My current dryer has the power cable connected directly to the machine. Does this dryer need a 3 or 4 prong plug to be connected to an outlet or can the power cable be directly connected to the machine? I just need to know if I need an outlet installed.
The machine doesn't come with a power cable because the number of prongs on the cable is determined by the dryer-specific outlet in your house. All you have to do is look at your outlet and then you can buy a standard power cable from Best Buy (we got ours from Home Depot).

You do need to have formal hookups in your house, so it sounds like you need the correct outlet (it provides more power than an average one) installed.
