What's great about it: Picture is great!
What's not so great: Less content than the competition.
When I needed "streaming", I looked at, and bought, BOTH-Roku and AppleTV. The picture quality on the Apple TV wins! It is simply better. I queued up the same content on Netflix and compared them. The AppleTV was definitely better. The AppleTV also adds "Airplay" if you use an iPAD or iPHONE-this can be useful, but not for everyone. So, the AppleTV looks better on paper, but I have noticed I use the Roku MUCH more than the appleTV. MUCH more. Every time I go to my AppleTV, there is an update waiting, because it hasn't been on for a while. The Roku offers far more APP's that are much easier to initiate. Apple must want to track EVERYTHING you do, because you have to register, or activate, most of the APP's. ie) CRACKLE on the Roku-Load it and watch. CRACKLE on the AppleTV-Choose it. Now, go to you computer and register the activation code...
I would not get rid of the AppleTV, but I would start with a Roku, if you are not heavily vested in Apple products, services and media. Also, if MOST of what you stream is NETFLIX, this is the better player. The picture was clearly better.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Very good performance for the $
What's not so great: Mediocre menu system in a flimsy chassis
The picture is very good, which is what you buy a BluRAY for. Physically loading a disc is SLOW. It is several seconds before the tray reacts to an "eject" command. This is inexcusable. Digital loading (starting the movie) is good, but NOT fast. The Sony navigation grid has been around for a few years, and I am used to it. However, it is NOT intuitive for the new user. ie) Friends often ask, "how do you get to the ...(DVD, certain APP, etc)" A simple column of menu items that one can sort, according to their use/needs, would be much more useful and intuitive.
Further, the Sony has a variety of AUDIO and Setup settings that are not intuitive. DOWNMIX, BD Audio Mix, Digital Audio Output and DSD Output-ie) DSD outputs a DSD or PCM signal. MOST people do NOT know what this means/does... A better explanation of these features in the MENU System would benefit most.
Finally, the chassis is cheap JUNK! It's a small form factor that is super light, and is re-positioned by the weight and mild stiffness of the HDMI cable. It is also has an odd shaped top. Sort of a pyramid. which means you can not place any component on top of it. This goofy shape may be intentional-I placed an 8-port switch on top of it, temporarily, and it "buckled". Seriously! It can not have anything on top of it. WHY can't Sony offer a BDP in a more conventional case? I get it! Most electronics are getting smaller and lighter. Let's agree on a size (and shape!). Then, we can stack or BDP and SAT/Cbl Box on top of our AMP/RCVR.
It is recommended with reservations.
This product has... Slow load time, Useful Internet-enabled features, decent all-around player
About me... Avid movie watcher, Love to stream movies, finding we have to settle for mediocre products, and companies do not seem to listen to feedback.
I would recommend this to a friend!

eero - Beacon AC - White
eero - Beacon AC - White
Upgrade your network with this compact eero beacon. Equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi radios and a 700MHz quad-core processor, this unit connects intuitively with your existing eero TrueMesh system. This eero beacon plugs directly into a standard wall outlet and expands coverage into any room in your home for a seamless streaming experience.

Do I need to buy wi fi from a provider

No, but you do need internet service from a provider, which feeds an EERO base station.
Then, the BEACON will EXTEND the WiFi signal created by the EERO.
One would start with an internet service and modem, plugged into an EERO.
Then, you could add BEACON's as needed to extend that WiFi signal.

 Sonos - Playbar Wireless Soundbar
Sonos - Playbar Wireless Soundbar
Make immersive, high-resolution audio an integral part of your entertainment with this Sonos Playbar soundbar. Bluetooth connectivity streams your favorite playlist wirelessly from your smart device, while automatic tuning ensures rich, detailed sound anywhere in the room. This Sonos Playbar soundbar lets you connect speakers in different rooms over Wi-Fi.

Does this soundbar work with a Samsung 75" 4k TV? AS of now, I am unable to plug in the optical wire to TV input.

Yes- I recently connected one of these to a 75 inch Samsung TV. The optical cable, however, did not plug into the TV-it had to be plugged into the external one connect box that Samsung uses.

Will this soundbar simulate surround sound? Do not want more than a soundbar and sub in our living room.

No-but it will down-mix the rear channels from Dolby and DTS soundtracks, so that you will not be missing any audio. Especially, if you combine it with the SUB.

Does the sound bar have to be connected to a TV or can it be connected directly to a router and used for music only?

Yes- it can be used just like a Sonos "Play" speaker. It can be connected with ethernet to the router, which is preferred, but you can also set it up via wifi only, and it is not too much tougher to do.
