We live perhaps as far as 50 miles from most of Seattle's transmitting antennae so we had hoped that this unit, with an advertised 60 mile range, would be just what we needed. Unfortunately, many of the stations pixelated and broke up when we tried to watch them. I added an inline amplifier which helped...somewhat. If I had a second try, I'd either get the antenna with the double bow tie or another product line.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

First, we all know that there is next to zero 4K broadcasting but I decided to go for the future. The picture quality is outstanding, the viewing angle very wide, and the audio is adequate. I had a short term problem with not being able to get to the hub, or home, location. The problem cleared itself up after a few weeks and all it well. Also, I had a one pixel high horizontal line running all the way across the screen which was not even noticeable except on a solid, one color picture. Samsung first tried to trouble shoot the problem over the phone. When that didn't work, they promptly sent someone to my house that replaced the screen unit. As they say, "Sh** happens" -- so it's nice when the company stands behind their product.
One deletion that I don't like, and the reason for 4 stars, is that there are no legacy I/O connections. Have an old VCR or DVD with RCA audio/video outputs or other A/V outputs? Too bad, no ports for the TV, it's HDMI or optical sound; you'll need conversion gear or buy new components. At least, unlike some newer TV's, there is an antenna input - a must if you use digital, over the air reception - and it's on the Samsung connect-all box that sits remotely from the TV resulting in only one cable running to the TV. Nice if you're going to hang the TV on a wall.
I am in the market for another TV for our other home and Samsung will be my first choice. CAUTION: Like many TV sets, the Samsung can be controlled via voice commands. This opens you up to unauthorized monitoring, even when the set is off, according to hackers. However, you are able to just turn this "feature" off.

I bought this as a gift for my wife. I had a gen 1 Fire and am using last year's 8.9HDX. My wife had been using the old gen 1 until it stopped taking a charge (a known defect for that model which Amazon chooses to ignore).
This unit has a great display that is bight, sharp, and colorful. Amazon has elongated the length, or shortened the width if you prefer, changing the aspect ratio by about 10%. I really don't care for the tall, skinny screen, but that's a personal choice. One nice feature is that they have gotten rid of the carousal. That has been nothing but a BIG annoying "feature" on previous models of the Fire.
Changes: Live video help has gone bye-bye. Navigation icons have been changed requiring new learning, The black on white text is a little grey on white, but very readable. And, of course, the aspect ratio. On the plus side, the unit is faster, brighter, and displays more vibrant colors.
This is a fast, reliable tablet that my wife really enjoys. Two improvements I'd like to see brought to the Kindle Fire are: 1) SD slot and 2) a better camera.

This started after Geek squad set this tv up for us this week. It flashes to a black screen off and on and then the picture has frozen several times. Xfinity X1 box firmware is up to date and been refreshed several times. Have you heard of this problem?

why does the tv switch out of cable mode by itself after on about 20 minutes screen goes blank and and ask for a source, then i have to go and switch it back to cable mode myself please help!!!!!!

I just bought this Tv and I'm watching a European Futbol and the motion seems to be a little slow, example when the ball rolls or player running.. I want it to be clear and smooth.. Any help?
