My old LG lost the sound so I upgraded to fill the entire opening over the fireplace in my living room with this piece. My first smart TV it is really nice to have the apps that are just a button click away. Netflix goes seem to lag a little but I'm pretty sure that is from my internet service. No issues so far. Great buy for the money. TV technology evolves too fast for me to justify spending $1500 on a TV. When that model is 40% cheaper in 12 months and TV's just aren't built to last anymore.

the TV stand

can this be placed on a flat surface without using the stand?
Not unless you have a mount on the back of it.

can the legs of the stand be adjusted

No the stand is a fixed height and the stock stand on mine leaned the top of the TV back. I opted for a full motion mount on mine.
