Does this DVD player have a display face? I have it hooked up and playing a disc, but the display is blank...??

No.. Just standard display light just to indicate on or off.

Is there a trick to using the remote? I can't get my dvd of old super 8 movies to start at the beginning. Arrows don't help and taking it out and putting back in doesn't help.

No, thiers no trick.. The DVD is compatible with 90% of DVD's I normally play even "some" Blue Rays and Burned DVD's....
