With Chromecast I can stream not just content from apps like YouTube, HBOGo, Pandora, Netflix, Hulu, etc, but video content from web pages/Facebook (using an Android device running a Google Chrome browser). I can take it with me when I travel. plug it into the hotel TV (HDMI) and connect it to their WiFi network to stream just as I would at home. Love it.
I DO wish they'd include more apps, like Spotify and more games, but overall it's great for the price.
I would recommend this to a friend!

is there a list that I can look at which shows me what programs are available

for example is the show "Fixer Upper" or "Rehab Addict" or "Pretty Little Liars" available. Obviously, I am not sure how this works.
This dongle is used to stream from services like Hulu, Netflix, HBOGo, MAXGo, etc... so you'd have to have an account with those services. The list of programs you'd have to look for using those services websites (i.e.- HuluPlus.com, HBOGO.com, Netflix.com, etc). Some networks run the content throught the Chromecast without an account. How do I hook this up to a projection TV run through a Receiver?

If the projection TV doesn't have an HDMI port, you would need to purchase an HDMI converter to whatever input format your projection TV takes (RCA, etc)... then you'd plug the Chromecast dongle to the converter and plug the converter to your TV.
