Would connection through a floor be an issue?

My computer in my room typically has poor connection to the router, and occasionally, the connection drops. I was thinking about getting a WiFi booster for my room, which has a floor in between it and the router. First of all, would this solve the problem? Also, would the floor interfere with the connection to the booster?
I think a range extender would work if you plug it in the hall outside the room, probably won't help if you put it in the room where the signal is already weak. It needs to be located where the signs is still good.
