I am thoroughly pleased with this product. Once broken in, this product shines! I have yet to purchase my next piece the puzzle which is an amplifier but love this headset. Bass is moderately touched but the mid and highs are where this unit shines.

On the case is a sun or light emblem, beneath it is a button that helps change it.

Can you get a shorter cord (6ft) with the Mp3 plug I believe it is 2,5mm

Can we order a shorter cord more conducive to listening with an ipod. Also can you get a cord with the smaller tip 2.5 mm I believe for an ipod. I know there are adapters, but I want to know if I can get a shorter cord with that adapter.

Yes there are many online that will work.

Do I need a headphone amplifier for Ipod use?
Do you know if there are other products woth similar quialty to compare with?

Amp isn't needed but it will enhance the experience as the iPhone will meet the ohms rating these headphones have. The amp fiio e11 or e10 are both nice ones to look at.

Yes I currently use them as my streaming headset on twitch.tv and for gaming, music, and movies.

Typical burn-in time?

What is the typical burn-in time for these HD-558 headphones?

Depends. My friend played his playlist on them for a week straight at 90% volume and expedited the process. Mine are about a mth old and still breaking them in.
