I had to install a wifi extender to receive a signal in a room 30 feet away. the walls are sheet rock construction and should not be a problem.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

would i put my modem ,where the wire comes in the house

would the best spot for your modem be at the beginning ,where the wire comes in the house
The modem is close to where the cable enters the house.
