I had my doubts before I bought this, but afer using it for a few weeks, it won me over. The configuration software is very intuitive and had settings for all my devices.
For the heck of it, I decided to add the electric fireplace that's in my living room. By using the existing fireplace remote to program the 650, I'm able to even control all the functions of my fireplace (on/off, temperature up/down, etc). Now I have one remote for everything!
Great job Logitech!

Doe it operate Apple tv

Yes. They say on the controller configuration app to make sure you're running the latest version of the OS on the Apple TV. I am and it controls my Apple TV great. It's nice having one control for everything.

Will the remote control a Directv dvr?

Yes. That's what I have and it works great.

Why do they say Computer OpSys as Sys Requirement

Trying to figure out why a remote I want to use on my TV needs to be compatible with Windows, or MacOS ????

Also is it backlit, and compatible with Samsung LED Smart TVs?

I use my Samsung LED only in the bedroom and I hate the remote it comes with, and cannot find correct buttons in the semi dark. Does it have SmartHub button etc, and can you actually see the buttons, with a back light?

You hook the controller to your computer via USB to configure it with the software you download from their website. This makes it real easy to setup the controller. You enter the make and model of your devices and it then knows which buttons should do what. It worked great for me on a Mac.

Yes, it is backlit. It comes on when you pick up the controller and then dims itself a few seconds after you set it down.

Yes. When you pick up the remote, it lights up. When you set it down, it dims itself after several seconds. You can even adjust the amount of time it stays lit as part of the configuration software. If I remember correctly, it's under the "settings" section of the software.

This controls 5 devices or 8?

The heading says it controls 8 devices, yet everything I'm reading in the reviews says 5 devices. Also, when I look up the model number of the remote, I'm seeing 5 devices. Which is it?
I currently have 7 devices hooked up to mine, so I'd say it does 8.
