What's great about it: Easier setup than the old ones
What's not so great: Reboots at various times
Easier setup than the older sling box. Much needed improvements, such as hdmi capable, and wireless network. Better quality on computer. Must have high speed internet( should be a given but one can never tell). Wish the technology was with Tivo, direct tv, dish , or cable. Only downside I have ran into is that the system reboots at various times, not every day, but maybe once, and sometimes twice a week.

one sling box- 2 different viewing locations

I want to be clear before I buy-- If I buy the sling box and set it up in my home...can my 2 college sons watch the same local show at their colleges located in 2 different states? Please don't tell me I have to buy 2 boxes......I don't mind 2 subscriptions.....just let me know in layman's terms how to go about it

How is the quality of the picture/sound?

The picture quality is as good as your computer quality. It also depends on the speed of your internet. The same goes for the sound.

Can I set up a sling box in ny and not have the laptop that will be using sling box with me?

What if I want to buy it so my daughter can watch tv. She's not here with her laptop. Will this be a problem?
Yes you can. You can setup the sling box account and a password, you can give her the main password or setup a guest password for her to log into as a guest. She may have to download software to be able to play, but its good for mac or pc.
