This playbar does not directly support "true" 5.1 surround sound...however, I have a samsung tv that automatically decodes the signal to the appropriate level to use the full 5.1 surround sound. Most tvs do not have this capability, but some blu ray players do have this (mine does as well), so if you can "actually" tell the difference between "real" 5.1 and coded simulated 5.1 surround sound and you don't have a tv or bluray player with a decoder then this might not be the soundbar for you. For me, it was perfect and I already love the system!! See below review for other sonos system parts.
You only thought you were an audiophile before you owned a sonos player/system. I find myself agreeing with one review I found online...that sonos speakers make you feel like, "yes, as a matter of fact, we could use a speaker in this closet!". Once you buy one, you will probably end up with many. I currently have 5 play 1, a connect and playbar. All are amazing!! Some things are not built in features (like the ability to play any app you want over the speakers--as in through bluetooth for example), but a simple bluetooth adapter plugged into the connect makes the whole world your musical stage. These players allow you to connect your music stored on your computer to any speaker in the house, allow you to access it remotely if you have it saved to a sharable folder. Really I can't say enough good things about sonos and the two negatives I have found so far, are far outweighed by the ability to listen to my old records through the system, listen to tapes, cds, digital music files, and loads of streaming radio apps. The controller is a simple app that works through a phone...really, other than the bluetooth problem, which I have rectified with a bose bluetooth adapter hooked to my connect, and the inability of it to play audio being played on your computer throughout the house on the sonos (which I have also rectified using the jamcast app downloaded to my computer), I have had only good experiences with my sonos's!! Have I said that I love this yet? Cuz I do!

After multiple weeks researching tvs online and in store, I settled on this tv (55 in). So far I have not been disappointed. Even though I haven't used the 3d feature yet, I found that multiple reviews online were correct that the picture quality on a 3d tv is SOOO much better than other tvs...so if you're on the fence like I was and doubt that you'll ever use the 3d feature (which so far I haven't), just know that the hype is true! This tv does have a way better picture in regular 2d than any other 2d only tv. Only issue I've had so far is that the whites look blue...but i'm sure if I had time to research that online I'd find some guru who has perfected the color settings to avoid that problem. Best TV I have ever bought...and I got it at a great deal (though it was still much more expensive than the 2d version, but I can live with that to have a picture this amazing!).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Should the playbar be used as a center speaker?
I'm looking to set up a home theater system, and I was looking to go all Sonos and was curious what should be used as a center speaker.
The playbar definitely is the center speaker in this system. Then you can pair with a sonos sub and either two play 1s or two play 3s or if you're really excited about sound two play 5s. Essentially the playbar, in a typical 5.1 setup is the center speaker and the front side two speakers as well.

Do these have an aux input? Want to be able to hook it up to other components (record/cd player etc) without buying another expensive sonos product
No. The play 1 does not have an aux input or any input except ethernet. However, the connect has the ability to hook up your record player and cd player (provided that the record player has a phone preamp). You do not need a receiver or an amplifier as the speakers have an amp in them. The play 5 does have an headphone style input...and the playbar has optical audio input to play from your tv. It's a lot to put out at once probably but the connect is your best bet if you want to use play 1 with a record player. I have a lot of play 1 and a connect and I couldn't be happier with the system.

What is the difference between BUILT IN WIFI & INCLUDED WEB BROWSER
Wifi allows it to link to your home wireless network (if you have a wireless home network). Included web browser is the equivalent to internet explorer or firefox...whichever service you use to access the internet from your computer, only this one is on your tv--but to use this feature, your tv would have to be linked to your wireless network or else hard wired to your home internet connection via ethernet cable (or if your router/modem uses usb, you might be able to connect using that as well).

can i stream movies from my laptop directly to the tv without any extra devices
If the laptop is samsung, then you would be able to use the screen mirroring feature...or if not, if the laptop has bluetooth then you should be able to use it on the bluetooth feature on the TV, but I would imagine that there would be a delay using either of these methods. You might also be able to (with an added cord only) port the movie in through one of the connectors on the back of the tv (white red yellow; usb; hdmi) depending on which connection your laptop has.
