What's great about it: Lots of ports, small footprint
What's not so great: USB connection is loose and cuts out sometimes
Would be a great product, but the main USB connection is loose on my unit. I had to keep wiggling it around to keep the connection stable. My unit will stay on my desk, so now that I have the cable in the right spot, its fine. But if you were traveling with this unit (and yours had the same issue) it would be a nightmare to keep all your devices active.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Add up to 7 additional USB ports to your computer with this powered USB hub that features a plug-and-play design for simple connection and data transfer speeds up to 480 Mbps for reliable performance.

Does this have a AC power adapter with it?

At the risk of asking a dumb question, does this unit come with an AC adapter? It says "powered" and it does not specify "bus powered" and it appears there is an input for AC. The reviews don't seem to complain about it not having one. However, it is also not shown in the picture or listed in the contents. And, other people are shown as buying an AC adapter as well. How is it a "powered" USB hub without the adapter?
It does NOT contain the AC adapter. You have to purchase that adapter separately (if you need it). So, its entirely bus-powered out of the box.

what's the reason for connecting the hub to AC power?

this is a 7 port hub connecting to a laptop
You'll need the AC adapter if you'll be connecting peripherals/accessories that draw extra power. A standard keyboard, mouse, or small peripheral (in my case, a mini music keyboard) draw a smaller amount of power. A larger accessory (in my case, an audio interface box) needs more power than what is coming through the USB port passively. Overall, keep in mind that you're plugging in 7 different units into a single port, so that port's power is being split 7 ways. The AC adapter ensures that all 7 devices will get the power they require.

Can you connect a keyboard and mouse to a hub?

Will they work?
Yes, you can connect any keyboard (wired or wireless), as long as it uses USB 2.0 (or lower). I have a wired keyboard and wireless mouse connected, along with other peripherals.
