Hi! I live in a single family dwelling (money pit) surrounded by homes all the way around, Consequently, I have my antenna mounted on a five foot rooftop mast. I have a thirty foot cable run, so I must use an inline amplifier. From that location, my Vizio 26 HD television gets at least three out of five bars (signal) with a good picture. Most channels get four out of five. I do get signal loss when the occasional delivery truck drives by. So, I will probably have to raise my antenna a few feet more. Otherwise no complaints.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've had my TiVo Roamio for a few weeks now. The setup was easy. But, I did have to play with my rooftop antenna to get decent signal strength first. I've had several TiVo's, but the last was over thirteen years ago. I bought this Roamio because I got tired of missing my shows because of my work schedule. The remote has its classic TiVo peanut shape, fits comfortably in my hand, and has buttons arranged easily within the reach of my thumb. The schedule service is outstanding! Unlike the generic decoder box schedule guide, this one is precise and very informative. For example, I just watched one of those old classic movies on ME TV. The TiVo guide gave me the year, the cast list, director's name, synopsis, run time (hours and minutes), and future showtimes. Nice! For classic television shows, the TiVo guide gave me the synopsis with production year and episode number. Now, that does come in handy when I look for that show on Netflix or one of the other services. Given a properly sited and tuned antenna, the picture is excellent. Just to be safe, I manually set start and end times myself so that I can be sure to get all of the show that I want to watch. I understand the reluctance of someone to plunk down $14.99 a month (or $149.00 a year) for a service that one expects should be free. But, I think that the TiVo scheduler is better than a DirectTV or Cox Cablevision DVR when it comes to accuracy, information, and functionality. I would recommend the TiVo scheduler even if I were to cave in and go back to cable television. Sadly, Cox Cablevision wanted to charge ten dollars per month rent for each of two tuner cards for the TiVo DVR. Mmmm...I don't think so! So far, I lovin' my Roamio. Try one for your over-the-air shows. I think that you will be impressed!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Subscription required?

Hi! Yes. The schedule service can be purchased monthly for $14.99, or a little cheaper by the year for $149.99. You can go with a lifetime plan for $499.99, if you care to, etc. I went with the one year plan because I figure on upgrading before the end of 2015. I recommend paying for the one year plan up front because it's a cheaper way of fulfilling your one year commitment. I used to pay two hundred per month for a cable shows that I never watched. So, this TiVo Roamio is a breath of fresh air for me. Thanks!

Cable cards

I know it requires two CableCARDs to record 4 shows, but it will still work with only 1, right?
Hi! I have the base model TiVo Roamio. I use mine strictly for over-the-air recording. I see on the back of the dvr where the two decoder cards go, but I don't use any. The built-in ATSC tuner works fine as is. It is true that with coded stream, from a cable source, you do need a decoder card per drive. I've never tried just one. I will ask around to see if any of my friends have tried that. Sorry that I couldn't help with that one.
