This unit is priced well, its strong and attaches properly. It has a knob to tighten the bracket to hold the angle you set.

How large of a device will fit in the holder? I have an LG v10 and with Otterbox it is roughly 3-1/2" wide.

I just checked mine - it opens up to 3 inches. It has some flex so it might work....

I get that the device can rotate for portrait or landscape viewing; however, is it capable of swiveling from side to side?

Yes, it has a ball type socket so it can move almost any direction - my vent is in the middle of my car, I have it tilted to the left. It has a knob to tighten the unit to the position you choose.
