I recently stepped up my broadband connection to the upper-limits of my previous cable modem, so I decided to buy a new one in anticipation of further speed increases down the line.
Surfboards are reliable and have served me well with several cable internet providers -- in my case Comcast and RCN. The 6141 continues to work well and without trouble.
The best thing you can say about a cable modem is that it does what it should without you noticing it. It uploads and downloads at the proper speed, and I go for months without even thinking it's time for a reboot. That's this device.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a fantastic keyboard that I use every day. It works/charges even in low light -- you can verify that the solar panels are getting adequate light by pressing a button on the keyboard.
If you have used "island-style" or "chicklet-style" keyboards, you have an idea of how this one feels. I've used many Logitech keyboards, and I like the consistency of their spacing and arrangement.
My only complaint is that it isn't Bluetooth. You have to use Logitech's proprietary USB receiver to use the keyboard. I have another Logitech device that uses an incompatible receiver (gaming mouse), so I wind up having two of these obnoxious dongles plugged in, eating up precious USB ports on my hub.
Still, you can't beat the price or quality. I am very happy with this purchase.

Will this modem limit capabilities of Airport Extreme?

I want to get and Airport Extreme to put downstream of my modem, hoping to get the advantages of the 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology and dual band 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. Does this modem limit the signal such that those features won't help me?
The modem itself won't limit the performance of the Airport. However, your internet speed is usually limited by your ISP. In most cases, your internet connection is much slower than the speed of your WiFi router.

You'll see greater performance for internal communication via 802.11ac: file sharing between computers on your WiFi network, or streaming (say, from a phone/tablet to a TV/Chromecast/AppleTV), for example. However, unless you have super-fast internet (we're talking 100 megs or more down), N will more than suffice.

I have an Apple Airport Extreme at home, and it works very well with my 6141.

I want to replace the Comcast wi/fi modem combo unit that i currently rent. What product should I be looking at?

It depends on your internet connection speed. If you're under 150 megabits down, you can use the SB6121 or a similarly-specced moded (4 up and down channels). 4 channels can handle up to around 170 megabits down.

If you're approaching 150 megabits down, you might want to consider a higher-end modem like the 6141. It has double the upstream channels, so you can get well over 300 megabits down from it.

I would use a separate WiFi router, simply because in my experience combo units don't work as well. It also means that if you want to upgrade your cable or WiFi, you can buy one cheaper device rather than a more expensive combo unit with features you may not use.

For WiFi routers, stick with industry standard specs and don't be fooled by proprietary add-ons. These usually require you use both a router and WiFi card from the same manufacturer, and that's not very common these days. N is the minimum I'd go for, but AC is becoming the standard. If you plan on buying a new laptop, smartphone, or tablet in the next couple years, you may see performance improvements in AC. It won't improve internet speed, but if you do internal things like sharing files between computers or streaming from a phone/tablet to a TV, it can help.

I personally have a Motorola SB6141 paired with an Airport Extreme. I used to use a Netgear WiFi router in the past, and it worked fine, too.
