I've had ipods in the past but never an ipod touch. It's much easier to navigate than the traditional ipod I had prior. My only regret is that there was more space! The 64G model was just too much.

No more issues with wires jumping around and tangling when I run. These do a great job staying put! Excellent clarity when used as normal headphones and as an external speaking device. Still trying to get the exact fit right since there are many different combinations of inserts.

Pretty tough to install. Finally got it somewhat bubble free on the third try. However, instructions recommend leaving the phone off for 24 hours after the screen is set, FYI.

Got this case a few months ago and I'm impressed with it so far. Not as rugged as some of the Lifeproof or Otterbox cases but much slimmer. Fits and slides into and out of pockets better.

Does a phone function the same as an MP3 Player or do I have to buy just an MP3 player?
I would purchase an mp3 player only if you are not interested in the other features included with a phone. For example, most mp3 players do not have cameras or the ability to shoot videos or access the internet. The ipod touch is an mp3 player that does include all these features, if that's what you're looking for. The only real difference that I've seen in my ipod touch and an iphone is the ipod cannot make phone calls. It can text when connected to a wireless network and make facetime calls.
I hope this helps. It really just depends on what you're looking for in an electronic device.

must the modem remain vertical or can it be laid horizontally?
Not sure what the manufacturer recommends but mine sits horizontal, vertical, even upside down and sometimes on its face and I've had no issues. My kids sometimes move it around when playing and it still seems to function just fine.
