Putting Windows-7 on this external hard drive
I have Windows Vista on my laptop, but want to upgrade to Windows 7. Some of my programs are not compatable with Windows 7 so I want to install Windows 7 on this external hard drive, keeping Vista on the internal drive. Will this idea work? I already purchsed this product but do have 30 days to return if I need to (probably should have thought of this question first!) Thanks for the help!
I'd keep the drive, but I'd go about it a little differently that what you're suggesting. I'd create a virtual hard drive of your laptop, purchase windows 7 pro (32 or 64 bit) or windows 8.1 pro 64bit (don't get the upgrade version because you want to use both at the same time). Wipe the laptop and install the new version of windows. Once completed, create a virtual machine for the vista vhd you have. You may need some additional memory to run both, but it's so much better being able to access both machines at the same time rather than doing some type of dual boot.
