A good entry AC solution for half the price or more than next competitors. They try to make it so easy to setup that the cords are already plugged in to right places in the box.
Puts an open guest network out by default that you want to drop or protect. Had to reboot i-phones to connect, which may be an i-device issue.

I would recommend this to a friend!

Do you have to have wifi or internet service to use this or does this take the place of those?

You have to have an internet service like from a cable provider with a cable modem. A wire goes between that and the router.
Having some other wireless service will not help without other special connection devices.
