I was looking to add speakers to an outdoor patio. I bought this SONOS AMP and some outdoor speakers. I then ran speaker cable from the speakers through the house and to the SONOS AMP. It worked GREAT. This AMP connected well. Setup was easy. I had to get a WIFI Extender to help boost the signal to my phone outside but that's not the AMP's fault. The sound volume is enough but not mind blowing so it may not be enough for some people. I wish it would drive a little more and have more options as far as setting up. You also don't have a ton of options as far as customizing the sound. It is what it is. But it is pretty darn good.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Forgive my ignorance, but does sonos connect amp act as a speaker itself? Does it emit sound even if there are no external speakers connected yet?

No. You have to connect speakers to it.

Can I connect the Sonos Connect AMP to my existing AMP which controls all the wired speakers in my house.

SONOS has a Connect that is made just to make an existing AMP and speakers part of the SONOS system. I would suggest using that. It's also a little cheaper. The SONOS Connect AMP is used to power speakers individually where no AMP is currently present already.
