The product is a great idea but there are some bugs that still need to be worked out. I would really like to see faster updates to fix issues that have been hanging around for a while. For apps that do not natively support it, the ability to cast your device's screen is great but it's a beta feature and does not always work reliably so be prepared for disconnects, loss of sound, etc... when using that mode. This will be killer once the rough edges are smoothed out and the bugs are addressed.

What's great about it: Performance, ease of use
What's not so great: A little pricey
Only bad thing I can say about it is because it runs the vacuum head with air, it sounds like the drill at the dentist - lol.

Can this connect to shared files on a network?

I have an external hard drive connected to my network, as well as files on my desktop i would like to play through the Chromecast. Can the device connect to these shared folders on the network to play these files?
The Chromecast device itself does not connect to the files on your local or network drives. You use an application to play media files that are located on your drives e.g. Windows media player, winamp, etc... on a Windows computer. Since those apps don't have native support for chromecast, you can't play media through them and have it go directly to the chromecast device. You have to do that via screen mirroring.
